New plant for Nissan Micra in Chennai
It's official now! Nissan Micra will be manufactured locally from Renaul-Nissan's yet-to-set-up facility in Chennai. The Japanese auto major Nissan announced on Monday that the new plant will be inaugurated on March 17. Carlos Ghosn, chairman and CEO of Renault-Nissan, will inaugurate the plant in Chennai. It is to be mentioned here that the alliance has invested Rs 4,000 crore to set-up the new plant which will have a capacity of manufacturing 4 lakh units per annum. The first car from the plant is expected to be rolled out in May that is might be Nissan Micra.

The compact car is planned to be manufactured in five countries including India. The company, Nissan, will revel more details about the plant and car models at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. The Japanese company had declared that it will introduce 9 car models in India by 2012 in view to grab 5.5 per cent of market share in India. Five out of nine car models would be produced domestically. At present, the company sells SUV Xtrail and Teana in India.
