    Overview

    The Thar is named after a mountain goat - and it is exactly that. In case you want a cool Jeep to drive to office and back, look towards something more modern like a sub 4-metre compact SUV such as the Maruti Vitara Brezza or the Ford EcoSport.

    But, if you need nothing more than a four-wheel drive toy to help you muck about on the weekends, there’s nothing more value-for-money than the Mahindra Thar.

    Things We Like

    • 2.5-litre CRDe motor + 4x4 = go-anywhere! Among the most potent off-roaders in the country.
    • Good to have creature comforts - air-conditioning, music system, 12V charger now available.

    Things We Don't Like

    • Facelift has been given only to the high end CRDe trim. DI versions remains to be same with outdated styling.
    • Quality of plastics in the interiors leave a lot to be desired.
    • Nervous on-tarmac manners. Choppy ride and fidgety steering means you are better off under 100kmph.
