Update (10/11/2021): Maruti has launched the second-gen Celerio with prices beginning from Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Read more about it here.

    • The hatchback is getting a generation upgrade for the first time since its debut in 2014.

    • The dimensions are expected to be revised, making it larger in size.

    • The new Celerio will continue with its 67PS 1.0-litre petrol engine, but might also gain the bigger 83PS 1.2-litre petrol engine.

    • CNG option should continue as before.

    • Will continue to rival the Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago and Datsun GO.

Maruti’s big launch this year is the second generation Celerio hatchback, which will hit showrooms in September 2021, right before the festive season. It was expected to launch in the second quarter of 2021, but was delayed due to the second wave of the pandemic. Recently, its design patents were leaked, showing us what it would look like.

The new Celerio will get a complete makeover inside and out, losing its ageing styling. Its dimensions are expected to be revised, offering a more spacious cabin.

Features onboard should include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual front airbags and steering-mounted audio controls. The feature list won’t be that different from the Wagon R, but could gain some from the Swift, like auto climate control and a rear parking camera.

The Celerio is expected to retain its 1.0-litre petrol engine making 67PS and 91Nm, with 5-speed manual and AMT. It could also get the choice of the 83PS 1.2-litre petrol engine, like the Wagon R, but a CNG option would likely be limited to the smaller engine.
