GM to introduce Chevrolet Spark Diesel and Chevrolet Aveo Diesel?

The General Motors India had launched its most popular hatchback Chevrolet Beat in the diesel variant recently, and now, they are reportedly considering of introducing few more diesel variants of its other cars as well. Among the Chevrolet models, Chevrolet Spark and Chevrolet Aveo are available in just the petrol variants as of now. The recent hike in the petrol prices had triggered this change among the auto makers to launch more of diesel cars and General Motors India is no way behind in implementing this decision. As for the Chevrolet Beat Diesel Price, the mini-hatchback was launched at an amazing price tag of Rs 4.29 lakh for its base variant, however, its top variant costs about Rs 5.45 lakhs.

General Motors has plans to launch the Chevrolet Spark Diesel and Chevrolet Aveo Diesel in the pipe-line. With the launch of the Chevrolet Spark Diesel, General Motors India hopes to take on with the upcoming Tata Nano Diesel in the auto market, said sources. The Chevrolet Aveo Diesel, will however, be launched in next year, of which the consumers are eagerly waiting.

General Motors India, unlike other auto companies viz. Ford Motors India and Maruti India, are not concerned about their diesel engine supply to launch their diesel cars in India. The Ford Motors India is apparently facing a supply crunch due to the low supply of the components for their diesel engines. General Motors India’s engine manufacturing facility in Talegaon Plant in Gujarat has the capacity to produce 1.6 lakh units per annum, which can manufacture up to 1.5 litres diesel and petrol engines. On an average, if General Motors India is capable of selling 8000 Chevrolet Beat Diesel units a year, there would be still 60,000 units of manufacturing capacity left with the plant. Among the diesel engines, the Chevrolet Beat’s diesel engines are the ones which are developed in the Talegaon Plant, the rest of which are manufactured in the Halol plant at Gujarat.
