Maruti to roll out Eeco in Delhi Auto Show

Maruti Suzuki, India's largest car manufacturer said that it is expecting to close the fiscal year with a growth of 18-20 percent in sales. According to the market analysts the government stimulus packages and easier car finance are the main factors in this double digit growth. According to Mr Shashank Srivastava, chief general manager of marketing, Maruti Suzuki India, the company is expecting that the double digit growth will continue this month though a slowdown in sales may occur in the forth quarter starting from next month. While the global economic slowdown impacted the auto sector at the end of year 2008, the demand picked up again due to stimulus packages announced by the government. The other factors which helped auto sector to revamp includes easier financing, launch of new models and the overall positive consumer sentiment.

Excited by the good growth in sales the company is all set to launch a new MPV (multi purpose vehicle) Maruti Eeco at the Auto Expo. Maruti India is hoping to sell around 40000 units of new Eeco model annually . The Maruti Eeco has a 1.2-litre petrol engine and it will be launched in the market as a replacement of the Maruti Versa model which is not performing well in the market since its launch in year 2001. The Maruti Eeco model will be available in both five and seven-seater versions and it is expected that the Eeco model will be priced in the price range of Rs 3-3.5 lakh. Maruti India had discontinue the Versa model three months back which was priced in the range of Rs 3.5 lakh. We had tried selling the vehicle as a luxury model, which was wrong. Based on feedbacks, we have now positioned the vehicle just above the Maruti Omni, Mr Srivastava added. Currently, only Tata Motors is selling its Ace Magic model in the segment other than Maruti Suzuki Omni van.
