Porsche 550 Spyder launch postponed to 2017
The fun and frolic that begun with the news that Porsche was resurrecting 550 have been soared as Porsche announced that it has pushed back launch to 2017. The company officials have stated that as the time to launch Porsche 550 Spyder is not appropriate and the market is not yet ready for a car like this. The postponement of the smallest Porsche roadster codenamed 551 is connected with the manufacturing of VW BlueSport; Porsche new model is going to be spawned on the Volkswagen BlueSport platform.

The truth being Volkswagen plans to roll out BlueSport is in lurch as the car is very small and pricey for the American market. Moreover, the parent company Audi does not want Porsche to be connected with the manufacturing of R4. Other reasons cited for this delay are, Porsche wants to concentrate on the launch of next generation Cayman and Macan before taking a leap to an entire new segment.
The 550 roadster would be available in two avatars, the Spyder Coupe and Cabrio, which will be produced on the low cost Modular Sports Car Matrix (MSB-M) platform of Volkswagen. The parent brand Volkswagen’s platform is also used for Porsche Boxter and Cayman. The powertrain used in the 550 will be supercharged 1.6L boxer four cylinder that churns out 180, 210, 240PS horsepower.
