    • Kwid’s 1.0-litre petrol engine is expected to power the Triber; diesel unlikely.

    • Will be underpinned by a derivative of the Kwid’s CMF-A platform.

    • Will be a feature-rich offering: projector headlamps, LED DRLs, touchscreen infotainment system and multiple airbags.

    • Expected to be priced in the range of Rs 5.5 lakh to 7 lakh.

Update: The Renault Triber has been revealed now and here are all the details.

The Renault Triber is set for its global showcase on 19 June 2019 in India. Despite multiple sightings of the car undergoing tests, Renault has managed to keep the suspense about the Triber’s body style intact. It was initially speculated to be a sub-4m MPV, but the latest teaser image suggests that it would be a cross between an MPV and an SUV in terms of its appearance. What we know for certain is that it will be a sub-4m vehicle.

The latest teaser of the Triber confirms that it will be equipped with features like projector headlamps, DRLs and roof rails. Also, thanks to the spy images taken previously, we know that it would get multiple airbags and a touchscreen infotainment system as well.

While there’s no official image of the interior of the car, what we know from spy images is that the Triber will get a dual-tone interior scheme with beige and black colour combination. The design of the dashboard will be relatively simple. Renault claims that the Triber will be “super spacious” and “ultra modular” and we expect it to have seats for more than five people, with multiple adjustment options.

Renault claims that the Triber will be built on a new platform, but we expect it to be based on an iteration of the Kwid’s CMF-A architecture. Apart from sharing its underpinning, the Triber might as well come equipped with the Kwid’s 1.0-litre petrol engine. In the Triber, however, we expect this engine to produce more than 68PS (Kwid’s output) with either turbocharging or different tuning. We don’t expect Renault to offer a diesel engine with the Triber at launch.

    Renault Kwid

Within Renault’s India portfolio, the Triber will slot in between the Kwid and Lodgy. We expect its prices to start from around Rs 5.5 lakh and go up to Rs 7 lakh. That will also mean that the Triber will bridge the gap between the Datsun GO+, a seven seater that is priced between Rs 3.86 lakh and Rs 5.94 lakh, and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, which starts from Rs 7.44 lakh and goes up to Rs 11.2 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). The price range of Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh would make the Triber an alternative to premium hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz.
