The new 2014 VW Polo 1.5L TDI vs older 1.2L TDI engine

Usually, facelifts are accompanied with upgrades externally and internally but 'out of the blue', VW has introduced an engine upgrade in the 2014 Polo facelift. The German hatch now comes with a new 1.5L TDI motor in the diesel avatar ditching the previous 1.2L TDI one. Definitely the power has gone up while the torque has gone manifold. The petrol engine on the other hand is retained. Apart from these, Polo has also gone through slight dimensional changes. As of now, the upgraded 2014 Polo is certainly the country's 'Hot Hatch!'
Speaking of the new engine, The 1.5 liter TDI unit has been derived from the bigger 1.6 TDI that powers the Vento. The new 4-cylinder 1.5 TDI belts out 88.8bhp (90PS) of max power nearly a 15bhp plus compared to the older 1.2 TDI's 74bhp (75PS). Now, only figures will talk! The new Polo's 1.5 TDI churns out 230Nm of peak torque, that's more torque than Honda City, Maruti Swift, Ford Fiesta, Fiat Linea, Hyundai i20 and this list goes on! The weight of the new Polo has hardly increased plus the heavy improvement in power resulted in high power-to-weight ratio, expect dramatic improvements in naught to 100km/h time and max speed. The new diesel motor also incorporates Variable-Geometry-turbo compared to the previous ones fixed geometry one.
The new Polo is also slightly altered dimensionally, the 2014 facelift offers 2469mm of wheelbase compared to 2459mm of the outgoing version. While an increase of 1mm in length makes it 3971mm compared to the previous version's 3970mm; width is kept same while height sees 43mm of increment.
