Volkswagen India To Invest In Road Safety
The German carmaker will help set up a Centralized Traffic Control Centre at Pune Police HQ

The Indian arm of the German carmaker, Volkswagen, is gearing up to kick start a CSR initiative by investing in setting up a Centralized Traffic Control Centre (CTCC) at Pune Police headquarters. On November 28, 2016, Volkswagen India had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the city’s Traffic Police Branch and Rotary Club of Pune Baner Charitable Trust. A ceremony for “Bhoomi Pujan”, where the CTCC will be built, was recently attended by representatives from Traffic Police Branch and Volkswagen India.
The German car marque will invest Rs 55 lakh in the construction of the CTCC facility. Once completed, this facility will help in efficient traffic monitoring and management remotely round the clock. It will be equipped to minimize the response time in cases of accidents or any other emergency situation that might occur on the roads of Pune. Furthermore, the CTCC will be an ideal platform to monitor and manage traffic signals, especially in areas plagued with heavy traffic. The centre will also have access to remote surveillance of traffic violations using cameras installed at 260 key locations. These cameras will help in issuing e-challans to motorists.
Andreas Lauermann, president and MD, Volkswagen India, added his thoughts in a press release by saying, “It is a privilege for Volkswagen India to partner with the Traffic police and the Rotary Club of Pune Baner to make our city safe to drive. As a brand, safety is one of our core components and we always abide by the same. With this partnership we look at extending the safety from within our cars to the local roads of Pune.” He further added, “We are committed towards addressing & optimizing requirements pertaining to road safety and ensuring the well-being of the citizens with setting up of the Centralized Traffic Control Centre here in Pune.”
Remote monitoring and faster response times are two key areas which the traffic police, especially in congested cities like Mumbai, Pune and Delhi, must have in place to lessen the frustration that motorists encounter daily.
