Volkswagen Jetta TSI has been caught doing some test rounds on the Mumbai-Pune highway recently. This petrol version of Volkswagen Jetta has raised eyebrows and has lent everyone a reason to think why Volkswagen will launch a petrol car in India amid a market crazy for diesel cars. Speculations apart, the new Volkswagen Jetta price can be tagged a little under Rs 14 lakh for the base model with the top end variants expected to cross Rs 17 lakh mark.

Volkswagen India was offering Volkswagen Jetta only in diesel variant till now just like Volkswagen Passat. Two months back, Volkswagen also launched the all new Jetta with an aggressive new design and their reliable 2.0 TDI engine under the hood. But petrol variant was far from expectations. All said, the spotted Volkswagen Jetta TSI is powered by a 1.8-litre TSI engine putting out 160 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque. This engine is already found in the Skoda Laura petrol and Skoda Yeti. Recently, it found another home in the Skoda Laura RS. In the Skoda cars, the 18-litre TSI returns a fuel economy of 13.37 kmpl.

The petrol version of Volkswagen Jetta is available in Europe where three petrol engine options are offered with capacities ranging from 1.2 to 2 Liters. According to Euro specifications, Jetta petrol comes with choices of 6 and 7 speed DSG gearboxes. However, expect a 6-speed manual transmission in base variant with six speed automatic DSG transmission in the top end version. But, it remains a mystery as to when Volkswagen will launch the petrol variant of the Jetta in India. It is also uncertain that how well the Volkswagen Jetta TSI will do in the petrol market but Volkswagen will fill the current Jetta line-up completely by bestowing the petrol variant.
