Volkswagen ID.4

Latest Update: Volkswagen has confirmed the launch timeline for the ID.4 electric crossover SUV in India as the brand's first pure EV offering in the country.

Launch: The ID.4 will likely be launched in India by the end of 2024.

Price: It is expected to have a starting price of Rs 65 lakh (ex-showroom).

Seating Capacity: The electric SUV has the capacity to seat five passengers.

Battery, Motor and Range: Internationally, the ID.4 comes with two battery pack options mated to an electric motor with different stages of tune: 52kWh and 77kWh. The smaller battery pack comes with two power tunes (148PS and 170PS) and the bigger one has three (174PS, 204PS and 265PS). The standard ID.4 comes in both a rear-wheel- (RWD) and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. A more-powerful GTX variant, which is only available with the AWD, is also available for the electric SUV that uses the bigger battery with a 299PS, dual-motor setup.

The ID.4 has a WLTP claimed range of up to 510km and supports fast charging of up to 135kW, using which its battery can be juiced up from 5 to 80 per cent in 36 minutes.

Features: Features on board the ID.4 include a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a heads-up display, three-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats and heated steering wheel.

Safety: On the safety front, it gets seven airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, electronic engine sound system, and driver assistance features like lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.

Rivals: It will be a rival to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and Volvo XC40 Recharge in India.
