Nissan Sunny sedan exports to commence from March 2012
Nissan introduced its sedan Sunny last year in petrol guise followed by diesel variant which was launched soon after the petrol variant's launch. Car markers strongly believe that India is the key market for growth one way or the other, exports is the other area where they hope to indulge in. To facilitate the Nissan Sunny exports hoped to commence from March 2012 starting with Middle East market, the auto major is set to ramp up production at the Oragadam plant near Chennai from the present 2 lakh units to 4 lakhs shortly.

Nissan India shares its production unit with the French car manufacturer Renault where Nissan Sunny sedan and the Nissan Micra are the only two cars from the Japanese car manufacturer locally developed in the country. Ever since the start, the small car has garnered a mediocre success though the blame entirely lies with Nissan to get the Nissan Micra price wrong starting at Rs 4.08 lakh for petrol variant going all the way up to Rs 5.69 for Nissan Mirca diesel as there is absolutely nothing wrong with the small car adorning the cutesy appeal. Powered by both 1.2 L petrol engine and a 1.5 L K9K diesel engine, Nissan India has found an alternative approach to save the sinking ship.

The auto major was struck with a brainwave and found that the low development costs in India can be converted to profits through the exports to the international markets and thus began the export story for Nissan. The auto giant did its best to get the Nissan Sunny price right at Rs 5.78 lakh for petrol variant while the Nissan Sunny diesel costs Rs 7.98 lakh, unwilling to repeat the blunder it committed with the Nissan Micra hatchback. So far, Nissan Sunny has been able to garner decent number of sales ever since its launch.
