    Chevrolet Volt Concept launched at China Auto Show

    General Motors, a US based leading car maker has showcased a concept of its upcoming Chevrolet Volt sedan at the ongoing Auto China Expo 2010. The concept has been named as Chevrolet Volt MPV5 Concept at Auto China 2010 and looks similar to the Orlando Concept car which was introduced at the Paris 2008 Expo and is the first brand extension of the Volt plug-in hybrid that’s bound for showrooms in 2011.

    The Chevrolet Volt MPV5 will be produced at Voltec platform as in the Volt family cars. The new concept is coming with some elegant design elements of the Volt, including the new headlight, tail lamps and grille. The model has a basic design of a five-passenger crossover with featuring Volt-inspired fascias, 19-inch aluminum wheels. The concept car has a dual skyline, makes it unique in its segment of class.

    The new Volt concept car has a spacious interior, offering 30.5 cu-ft of cargo capacity, which can be increased to 62.3 cu-ft when the rear seats are folded down. The concept car is 4,585 mm long, 1,871 mm wide and 1,612 mm tall.

    It is powered with 150 horsepower engine and a 16 kilowatt-hour battery.  Company is claiming a zero-emissions EV range of 30 miles, twice the average daily commute distance in urban China. With this, when the batteries are dead, a 1.4-liter petrol engine is employed to charge up and provide a further 300-mile electric range.This enables the MPV5 to have a range of 482 km (300 miles).
