Mahindra Vision T Concept vs Mahindra Thar Roxx: Design Differences Compared

The Mahindra Vision T SUV concept made its appearance as a more evolved version of the Thar E concept, at the Freedom NU event on August 15, 2025. This prototype is based on the automaker’s new NU IQ platform. The Vision T also borrows some design cues from the Thar Roxx, so let’s take a closer look at the design differences between the two.

Front

At first glance, it’s clear that the imposing 6-slat split grille on the Mahindra Vision T concept takes inspiration from the Thar Roxx. However, unlike the Thar Roxx, this concept sports squared LED headlights with vertical LED stripes, while the Thar Roxx features circular LED headlights with C-shaped LED DRLs. 

Both the Vision T concept and the Thar Roxx get off-road-specific bumpers, but the Vision T stands out with an exposed tow hook latch finished in contrasting yellow on its front bumper.

Side

The similarities between the Vision T concept and Thar Roxx are even more evident in profile. Its rear door handle sits on the C-pillar, and the rear quarter glass panel is nearly identical to the Roxx. However, there’s a jerry can placed over the left quarter glass panel, which looks inspired from the Land Rover Defender. 

The Vision T prototype features off-road spec tyres and the chunkier body cladding compared to the Thar Roxx. On the other hand, the Thar Roxx rides on 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.

Rear

In a typical Thar fashion, both Vision T and Thar Roxx come with tailgate mounted spare wheels. The Vision T prototype has a modern appeal thanks to its squared tail lights with vertical LED stripes. 

Both SUVs here have high-mounted brake lights, and a black bumper. Unlike the Thar Roxx, the bumper on the Vision T also integrates a silver skid plate.

Interior

The Vision T concept and Thar Roxx both sport an upright dashboard design, though their interior colour themes differ. 

The main highlight inside the Vision T is its large vertical touchscreen which also integrates climate control display. There’s a separate screen placed for the digital driver’s display in front of the steering wheel. Talking about Thar Roxx, it also gets dual 10.25-inch displays (one for the infotainment and the other for the driver). 

While both Vision T and Thar Roxx have a 3-spoke steering wheel, the one inside the Vision prototype has ‘Vision T’ branding on the horn pad, and there’s also a start/stop button on the same unit inspired from sports cars.

Other features on board the Thar Roxx include a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats,a 9-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos surround sound system, 6-way powered driver’s seat, auto AC with rear vents, keyless entry and a cooled glovebox.

On the safety front, it gets 6 airbags (as standard), an electronic parking brake with auto hold function, 360-degree camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Powertrains

The Vision T prototype is underpinned by Mahindra’s latest NU IQ platform, which can accommodate different types of powertrain options. So, the Vision T is expected to come in both ICE (internal combustion engine) and EV avatars.

Rivals

The production-ready version of the Mahindra Vision T is expected to arrive by late 2027 or 2028. The Thar Roxx is currently priced between Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 23.39 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India). Both Vision T concept and Thar Roxx are alternatives to the offroad SUVs like Force Gurkha 3-door and 5-door, and Maruti Jimny.
