Chevrolet has added a new trim in its most sought after sedan, Chevrolet Cruze. The new variant will hold a 1.7L VCDi engine under the hood, the same engine is going to power the Chevrolet Cruze Wagon that is going to be rolled out by the third quarter of 2012. The 1.7L VCDi engine is although small and economic but do not go by the figures, as the power it produces is 130 PS just 20 PS less that the 2.2L engine, with 300 Nm torque.  With the max speed of 200kph, the car can gallop 0-100kph in just 9.4 seconds. The new Cruze will be available with three trim levels, the new engine is only going to power the five-door variant in the initial stage, later on it is expected to appear in the station wagon version. The first deliveries of the car are going to arrive in the month of May.

Chevrolet has introduced this new trim in order to lure customers. The company is eyeing to satisfy both customers and the dealers, with the expansion of the Cruze range. The Indian customers will have to wait for the 1.7L VCDi, as the car is now marketed in U.K. only. The sedan cannot be termed as the rear seat car, however what draws consumers towards it, is the performance feature. A petrol engine is also not in the near vicinity and the company is not looking forward to introduce the 2.2L engine, which is going to power the Chevrolet Captiva facelift version.

Moreover, General Motors is not thinking about to redo the Chevrolet Cruze available in the Indian market so we have to work with the present engine. For General Motors, India is one of the key markets and the company is expecting to increase its share by 8 to 10%. Also the American auto major has a few launched lined up this year. Chevrolet India has already unearthed the facelift version of Tavera, Tavera Neo3 , the next in line are the Sail hatchback and sedan, hot on heels will follow the facelift version of Captiva SUV and Chevrolet Enjoy MPV. The unveiling of the new fleet was done at the Delhi Auto Expo.
