    GM India bags National Safety Award for the 2nd year in a row

    The Indian unit of US based leading car maker General Motors, that sells its cars in India under the brand Chevrolet, has been awarded the National Safety Award in the Motor Vehicles category. Interestingly, this is the consecutive second year when GM India has received this honor. The Halol plant of the company has been chosen for its best safety systems in the industry under the categories of Highest Man-Hours for Accident Free Year and Lowest Average Frequency Rate. The prestigious award was presented by the country’s premier institution for safety - Directorate General of the Factory Advice Service & Labour Institute (DGFASLI) - that works under the aegis of Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India.

    Mr P Balendran, Vice-President at General Motors India said in a statement given on the occasion that, the award demonstrates General Motors’ commitment to safety and security measures at its plants. He added that the company has maintained a continued focus on encouraging accident prevention and implementing safety procedures across all of its processes and management. Further expressing company's commitment for the safety and prevention processes, he said that this award is very significant for the company as it comes against stiff competition from automobile manufacturers in India and winning this award for the second year in a row reiterates GM India's commitment to the high safety and security standards.

    The National Safety Awards were instituted by the Government of India in 1965, in a bid to encourage accident prevention and safety promotion programs and to recognize good safety performance on the part of industrial units.

    The company currently has more than half a dozen vehicles in its India portfolio that comprise of hatchbacks like Chevrolet Beat and Spark, sedans like Chevrolet Aveo and Optra Magnum, premium sedan Chevrolet Cruze, SUV Chevrolet Tavera and Luxury SUV Chevrolet Captiva.
